Haunted Ghots Valley

Hello friends my Name is Veer Sinha and i am from Maharashtra .This is a true incident that happened with me a long time back. it was around in the year 1999. I am a businessman and often I travel to Nasik. This incident happened around in the first week of June. One of my friend’s engagement was there in Nasik and it was decided that me and 2 of my friends would go to Nasik some 2-3 days before his engagement so that we could also help him in the preparations. We had initially decided to leave at 3pm in the afternoon but due to one of my lazy friends, we got late and had to start around at 10pm in the night.

We had a few snacks at my house so that I don’t feel sleepy while travelling. In those days, the ghat was not much in a good shape as compared to now. It was narrow, without much lights and tricky at some spots. Around 2 hours after we started the journey( I was driving the car, one friend was seated beside me and the other behind.) we reached somewhere near Shahapur. We had a small meal at a dhaba and grabbed few cold drink bottles with us and continued our journey. Around an hour of driving, we reached at the Nasik ghat.

There were very few vehicles on road, only trucks were seen and that also not much in the ghats. I presume it was 1:20 am then. After sometime, we were deep into the ghat and I was driving extremely slowly due to the conditions I mentioned earlier. There was a particular section on the ghat then, it was a long straight road with a sharp turn. on the edge of the turn, there was a big tree and the valley underneath. Around this time and in those time, there were hardly any cars that zoomed past us. We saw something sitting on the tree, it was a human figure like thing but we could not see the face and also I was more concentrating on driving than look at it but my friend was.

As we approached that tree, my friend sitting next to me suddenly shouted at the top of his voice and told me to look at the tree. his voice was very much trembling. Even the other guy began to shout and told me to increase the speed, I thought they had gone insane. He was pointing me to look at the tree with his finger. I am describing now what I saw on the tree. it was an old woman as her body was very thin, frail and had only a blouse on her. She was sitting on the tree with her legs dangling and as I was seeing her details, I froze in terror, that sight still haunts me to this day. Remember, I told you that we could not see her face, that was because she was headless.

We even heard her manic laughter for sometime. I was so scared to death, with my heart pounding and heeded to my friend’s advice not to look back and keep driving. I drove for sometime and then we were out of the ghats. After that, I stopped the car for sometime, unable to believe what I saw. I checked on my friends, one was frozen with terror and the other was slumped on the seat and a large amount of foam had came out of his mouth and he had also defecated in his pants( he had suffered an epileptic fit maybe due to fear). I had stopped the car for around half an hour and regained my composure, soon my friends also became normal and we gulped down the cold drinks and set off again.

We reached our destination between 3-4 am and went off to sleep, woke up at 9.30 am the next day. My friend’s father inquired as to why we were so late and quiet and then we told them what had happened with us. This man is a civil engineer who worked in the NHAI in Nasik. He told us that he had heard many experiences from people on this stretch. He said that while the ghats were being developed, many labourers had lost their lives and also many accidents happen at that spot and it is believed that “pretas” roam in the ghats at nights.

That spot where this incidents happened was torn down when the ghat was being renovated in around 2006. Another route/ detour is created now. I am in no doubt about the existence of such things after this incident. Many people whom we told this incident tell that we must be sleepy and it must have been a dream or something. To get an illusion,we had never ever heard before this incident that the ghat was haunted and even if it was an illusion as to how people say, how come 3 different people can have same ilusion..? I still go to Nasik at night today also but with a few more people. Also the ghats are now illuminated and widened.
